shades of beige

O.K. so it's been awhile since we've done any major projects to the house. So now I'm looking around thinking, "what can I paint"? Pretty much anything as my house seems to be varying shades of beige throughout. Not that beige is bad, but except for Jacob's room and the kitchen I don't feel like my house has any character. Case in point, my foyer. This may be the first area that I attack. See exhibit one and two below. A very nice color, don't get me wrong, but some days it just seems, "blah". If anyone has any thoughts I'm open to suggestions. The trim needs touching up anyway so I sort of feel like "what the heck" might as well do it all up right.

(P.S. ~ can you see crack in the wall??? Crappy plaster walls . . . grr. Another spot I must patch and obviously paint)
